Weekly Golf Update for April 8, 2006

CTGolfTips.com is in its second week and we are growing each week.  CTGolfTips.com is actively marketing itself through search engines and getting posters out to businesses and golf venues throughout the state.  The golf season just started and as the days get longer and warmer, CTGolfTips.com will keep growing.

Titleist Golf is now behind us and CTGolfTips.com is proud to have them.  I will be using the new Pro VIX Ball, 905R Driver, and the Forged 735-CM Irons.  I won most all my tournaments worldwide playing Titleist, so maybe those winning ways will return.  Lord Daniel Sportswear is also on board and will be supplying us with their unique line of “Flash by Bruce Fleisher” golf shirts as prizes for our Trivia Quiz.  This is my 2nd year with “Flash”, the shirt wears well and looks great.

The Buick Championship is also supporting CTGolfTips.com and we’ll be awarding our Trivia Quiz winners tickets to this years Buick Championship.  Thanks to my friend “Mitzi Koninis”, next years tournament chairperson, and she says, “We are really excited about being on the Champions Tour in 2007.”  We will keep you up to date on this year’s event and 2007’s event.

Total Golf of Newington is supporting us and it is under new management with Golf Professional and Master Club Maker “Neal Forte.  This year Total Golf is featuring:  Custom Club Making, Complete Club Repair, New Range Balls, New Short Game Area, and Launch Monitor, Video Lessons, and much more.

In conclusion, we still have some space left for businesses that seek Internet Advertising via the Golf Market.  We appreciate you visiting CTGolfTips.com and check out our sponsors’ websites by clicking on to their banner.  Visit us each week for a new Golf Tip – Tour-Eye’s View Article – Weekly Update – Trivia Quiz!!

A Tour-Eye’s View

Historical Brooklawn Country Club

Driving south on the Merrit Parkway from Hartford to Fairfield, I started reminiscing back to 1991 and winning the Connecticut Open at Brooklawn Country Club.  This week I planned to focus on that win, however, when we drove up the hill to the clubhouse and saw what they had done, well my plans changed.  Head Professional (PGA) Brad Worthington, in his 14th year, was happy to see both me and Steve Finkel and graciously found the time to give us a tour of the newly decorated clubhouse.  Brooklawn has hosted a United States Golf Association Junior, Women’s, Senior and Girl’s Championship, along with several State Championships.

The clubhouse has been tastefully redecorated with some historical photos from its 112 years of existence.  Brad, along with the help of some members, found some magical photos of yesteryear in the club’s archives.  The photos go back to 1900 when J.H. Taylor and Harry Vardon played an exhibition match at Brooklawn.  The Fairfield native, Julius Boros, clutching his U.S. Open trophy along with many photos of former head pro at Brooklawn, Gene Sarazen.  A beautiful colored painting of Mr. Sarazen is mounted in the pro shop, and in the men’s grill room is a plaque with replicas of all Gene’s wins, pro and amateur.

In the hallway of the clubhouse are many photos of “The Squire” at Brooklawn and other memorable photos.  The signatures of all the contestants in the 4 U.S.G.A. Championships are on display, along with some 100 year old trophies.  So if you ever get the chance to play Brooklawn Country Club, take it and you’ll love every minute, both on the course and in the clubhouse.

On May 22, Brooklawn will hold local qualifying of the U.S. Open and the course is ready.  Brad has been influential in lengthening many holes so it is true to its 6,691 yard length.  The greens are a typical Tillinghast design which means stay under the hole.  All in all, it was a great day to see just how the clubhouse has been brought to life by showing its historical past.  Congratulations to my friend Brad Worthington and the members of Brooklawn.

Golf Tips

Why do you practice sometimes real hard and then get to the course and you are lost?  It happens to a lot of golfers and it cannot only be frustrating but down right embarrassing.  To stop this from happening, one needs to be more creative on the practice tee.  First, you need to redirect with each shot, which means to step away out of your stance and regroup.  This will allow you time to think of what you need to do, and it will redirect your mind away from the next shot.  You see, on the course, you don’t hit ball after ball.  There is time in between each shot, so why not do the same when practicing.  It’s the old saying Quality is what counts, not Quantity.

Being creative can really help, along with utilizing golf drills and practice games to make practicing more meaningful and fun.  There are many different drills and games such as:

•  Feet together drill – Keep body in balance

•  Close stance drill – Creates more inside-out swing

•  Open stance drill – Creates more outside-in swing

•  Six finger drill – Makes one more aware of grip

•  Step in drill – Better weight transfer

•  Three club game – Hit to same distance with each club

•  One club drill – Hit one club 4 different distances

•  Putting games – draw back and 7 up

• One hand chipping and hitting drill – strengthens and keeps you more aware of each hand

•  Three tee shot drill – Tee 3 balls up and hit 1st at 50%, 2nd at 75%, 3rd at 100%

These are only a few drills and games you can do to break up the practice blues.  See your local golf professional for other drills and games you can do to spice up your practice sessions and make each session something you can take to the course.

In conclusion, there are many other tips that we will go through each week.  I hope these tips will help and visit CTGolfTips.com next week for more Golf.
