2011 NOVEMBER and DECEMBER Colandro Golf Update & Tip
by Mike Colandro - Writer for CTGolfTips.com Titleist Golf Professional, Worldwide Champion Golf Pro & Entertainer
This is the end of the year and the end of another golf season, up here in the Northeast, however if you want to keep swinging you can. First one needs to dress warm & in layers, long underwear is good to start with a good sweater & waterproof windbreaker is a must. Next get into a good stretching routine, do stretches that you can execute before and after each golf session. Now you need a place to swing and there are still many courses open, especially down state if there are no major snowstorms. Finally, there are quite a few golf ranges that stay open year round; a couple centrally located ranges are Golf Quest of Southington and Torzas Golf Center in Cromwell. Both ranges have covered & heated areas to hit from and Torzas has a great restaurant " Billy Tees" with several TVs to watch your favorite football game .My best advice to the golfer who wants to play better next year, is to keep swinging through the winter and keep stretching those golf muscles, so when you start back in the spring you will be ready.
This fall I put together my new " Rockin’ Golf Show CD - DVD & Booklet “, it is a combination of Golf Instruction, Golf Stretches, Championship Highlights, along with some of my Unique Golf Songs & More. It was a lot of work and with the help of my producer Jose {SONNYTUNES.com} the finished product came out great. The 3-piece package includes a CD of golf songs & true stories that Mike experienced / a DVD of ten chapters / a Booklet of what’s in each chapter of the DVD, words of all the golf songs, and Golf Shows & other promotions that Mike has performed both in the past and currently .You can purchase the " Rockin’ Golf Show CD - DVD & Booklet " on this web-site and for $24.95 you will receive an autographed copy with FREE Shipping.
November is still a big month in golf, however the snowstorm that hit Connecticut put most of central & northern CT. out of power. Trees and power lines came down everywhere and the golf courses took a beating. TPC River Highlands home of the PGA Tour {Travelers Championship) had over 100 trees come down and I am sure many other courses were hurt. Golf does go on elsewhere and Tiger will be playing in the Australian Open Nov.10th - 13th and the next week is the Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia. The Presidents Cup pits the USA against the rest of the world in a Ryder Cup style format with Fred Couples the USA captain and Greg Norman the captain for the rest of the world. It should prove to be some exciting golf and great for TV. All the best for the Holiday season and we will talk to you in January 2012
2011 October Colandro Golf Tip
by Mike Colandro - Writer for CTGolfTips.com, Titleist Golf Professional, Worldwide Champion Golf Pro & Entertainer
This months Tip is to get out and play golf during the fall months and enjoy the crisp, cool weather on the course. Try to get out and just play golf without worrying about how you hit the ball, attempt to work on your creative scoring ability, such as: trying different shots when around the green, using a hybrid club off the tee, trying a new putting grip or putter on the green, along with keeping your expectations minimal. The fall is the end of the golf season here in the Northeast, so go out and experiment some new techniques, you will be surprised how something new may just work for you. The fall also is a good time to check out deals on greens fees at various golf courses, go online or just make some phone calls and you will find some great values at some of the better high end public courses in the area
2011 September Colandro Golf Tip
by Mike Colandro - Writer for CTGolfTips.com, Titleist Golf Professional, Worldwide Champion Golf Pro & Entertainer
The golf season is winding down, however fall is a great time to get out and play, due to the cooler weather and great golf course conditions TEE it UP, before the snow flies. It is also a good time to practice more effectively by using creative practice drills. My Tip this month is to explain to you a few easy to apply drills that can make your practice session more useful. One drill is to hit one club a variety of distances, this will teach you how to feel your swing better, another drill is the 3 club drill hitting 3 clubs the same distance also teaching you to feel your swing with each shot. A good drill for driving off the tee is to tee up three balls in a row then at the first one swing 50%, next 75%, then the last one 100%, you will see just how good you can drive a ball with less effort. These drills can only make your practice sessions more creative therefore you will practice more effectively.

2011 August Colandro Golf Tip
by Mike Colandro - Writer for CTGolfTips.com, Titleist Golf Professional, Worldwide Champion Golf Pro & Entertainer
My golf tip this month is about the art of scoring on the golf course and how to shoot lower scores even when hit the ball poorly. One must work 75% on shots that are inside 100 yards every time you practice, which means full wedge shots, half wedge shots, hitting low shots with long clubs, pitch & lob shots, sand play, chipping and most important putting .For the short pitches & chip shots keep 80% of your weight on your front foot, then lean the grip ahead of the ball, then keep that angle through impact, play the ball toward your back foot and strike each shot with a downward blow. Putting is quite a personal feel, however a good tip is to allow the back of the left hand to pass your left thigh through impact, this will keep your putter low to the ground for increased solid contact and a truer roll. Take a short game lesson or a playing lesson to see if you are executing well on the course.
SURVIVORS of HOMICIDE GOLF EVENT 2011
by Mike Colandro - Writer for CTGolfTips.com, Titleist Golf Professional, Worldwide Champion Golf Pro & Entertainer
The 2011 Survivors of Homicide Golf Event at Grassmere Country Club was a big success for everyone involved, especially SOH, who raised over five thousand dollars on the day .My good friend and Survivor, Art Jensen , did a wonderful job putting it all together and giving all SOH members a unique place to bond with other Survivors. Art had many volunteers that helped getting prizes, trophies, sponsors, and many donations to make the event successful.
The day started off with all the goodie bags (Starbucks) being stuffed & placed in each cart. Free coffee was provided and I started my putting clinic for all contestants. After everyone checked in we got to the carts and headed out to the course for a shotgun start .I was joined by my cart caddie, Kelly, and we stayed at the par three 5th hole where I met every player, while playing one hole with each group. My beautiful cart caddie, Kelly, was quite helpful driving the cart and tending the pin along with putting a smile on everyone’s face .I hit some good shots for most groups and sank a few putts, while gibing a few pointers out to each group. There were team pictures taken on the course and they were printed and handed out at the luncheon (Walgreens).
After the golf it was time to sit down with a cool drink in the Club House where cheese & crackers were served and all the prizes were ready to be given out. The Ted Faraci duo entertained the crowd, while I changed my outfit. I then got on stage and did a few golf songs along with a few stories from my Golf Show. Our special guest came on next, Sarah French, the very attractive news anchor for Fox, and she gave a heart-warming story about how she became a Survivor of Homicide. Next, Jessica (SOH) said a few words, followed by Art Jensen (SOH Golf Event Director), and then we all sat down to a great buffet of food put on by Grassmere Country Club .We then started giving out the golf prizes to the winners with myself & Sarah French handing out all the golf and raffle prizes. If you did not win a golf or raffle prize, you still had a chance to win a door prize. It was a great day and my pleasure to be a part of such a meaningful charity that can hit anyone at anytime, for more info on SOH go online at survivorsofhomicide.com and check what they are all about.
COLANDRO GOLF JULY TIP
by Mike Colandro - Writer for CTGolfTips.com, Titleist Golf Professional, Worldwide Champion Golf Pro & Entertainer
This is now the heart of the golf season and with the long hot days of summer, it is time to play some golf by hitting the ball better. My tip this month is to share with you an easy to apply tip that can increase your ball striking ability along with lowering your scores. While at the Travelers Championship in June I was talking to my old buddy, Vijay Singh, and he told me that he was working on getting closer to the ball at address and his swing was effortless with every club. Vijay said, "Your power is close to your body, stretch your arms down below your shoulders and you will feel the power ". It really does work, try it the other part of the swing is to create good tempo and. that starts with a grip that is not too tight, by feeling the weight of the club, this will decrease the tension, therefore allow you to swing the club with good tempo.

COLANDRO GOLF HISTORY
Colandro Golf started back in the 1940s & 50s when my Dad, Albert Colandro, started playing golf. Al had a brief stint as a club pro then a very good amateur as a member of Wethersfield C/ C. and Rockledge Golf Club in the Hartford area.
In my early years I was swinging a club in 1956, age 3, at which time I sat on Arnold Palmers lap during the I C O, the first PGA tour event that he won. I was hooked on golf and dreamt of becoming a P G A Tour player, I did qualify for the tour in June of 1979 and played for a couple of years. After failing to keep my playing privileges I decided to go overseas.
In the fall of 1981 I made the long journey across the Pacific to play on the Australian P GA tour and made $ in 9 out of 10 events, this proved to myself that I can earn a living playing golf. With only a few mini - tour wins to my name, it took me some time to win a big 4 round event but I did play very consistently finishing in the top fifty $ winners for ten straight years in Australia.
From 1980 as a professional golfer, I won at least two events every year through 1995, with my best victory in the 1987 Air New Zealand Shell Open @ Titirangi Golf Club in Auckland New Zealand, beating a World Class field. It was about this time that I started Entertaining people during Corporate Outings, which was the start of Colandro Golf.
My love for the game showed up not only as a player, however my outgoing personality made it easy to teach and communicate with people. I gave lessons even back at Arizona State U, and throughout my Professional career. I have made Golf Videos, hosted a T V Golf Show, Promoted Charity Golf events, Wrote for newsprint & the Internet, along with writing & singing my unique Golf Songs.
In 2011 I will still be writing for www.CTGolfTips.com and teaching at Browns Driving Range in Windsor CT. I am also attempting to complete my book " ALMOST AN AUSSIE " I have 4 chapters written looking to get some help to complete and publish it. If you can help or know someone that can please contact at (860) 635-7795 or colandrogolf@sbcglobal.net
